Tobias MacIvey
After reading the book "The Land Remembered" my favorite character is Tobias MacIvey. Tobias is a strong man that takes pride in looking out for his family no matter what it takes. He values and takes his family's life before his own. As an young man I can respect those qualities as an up and coming man myself. All my childhood memories of my father remind me of Tobias. My dad and Tobias share a lot of the same qualities. Some of the characteristics of Tobias is an old fashioned, hard-nosed man, hard working man thats has seen some rough times in his life. Tobias has a well know reputation of fairness which takes him a long way in this book. He always seems to be willing to help anyone in need. For example Tobias became my favorite character, when he helped Indians by giving them food and a place to stay for a couple of nights running from the Confederate Soldiers. On another occasion Tobias helps a lost runaway slave named Skillit. Skillit turns out to be a vital part in surviving in the earlier part of the book. He was a strong man and helpful in herding cows. Tobias has incredible faith in the lord along with his family. He always believes that the Lord is always looking out for his family and strongly believes the next day will get better. Tobias is a great hunter, he hunts rabbits, deer, raccoons and sometimes alligators. Tobias has a big heart as well, he shows all of this compassion for his long wife Emma. He always believes that Emma should be in a better place than where they are now. I believe thats what fuels Tobias's work ethic to earn a better living for Emma and his son Zech. Tobias is a man that I would want to idolize. He works hard and makes the most of what he has. He always makes sure his family is doing well before he even begins to think about himself. Tobias is my favorite character in this book.
